RE: Clearing the Air – The Texas Hospitality
Coalition on Indoor Air Quality
Dear Website Customer:
Much has been said about Indoor Air Quality
over the past several years. Last year the major Texas hospitality
industry trade associations decided to do something about it!
The Texas Restaurant Association, the Texas
Hotel & Motel Association, and the Texas Licensed Beverage
Association joined forces to form Clearing the Air-The Texas
Hospitality Coalition on Indoor Air Quality to address IAQ
issues common to their members (cigarette/cigar smoke drift,
mold and mildew, and kitchen odors). The Coalition has partnered
with the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association, Mechanical
Contractors of Texas, and Options/Phillip Morris USA in their
efforts to educate the hospitality industry on ventilation problems
and cost effective solutions for them.
According to Richie Jackson, the Coalition's
President and Executive VP/CEO of the TRA, here are some things
they have accomplished and some that are "in the works":
- Ventilation Guidelines Booklet
outlining ventilation and filtration principles and methods for
retrofit and new construction applications in hospitality establishments.
A special taskforce of hospitality association members and ventilation
and IAQ experts is preparing this booklet which should be available
in the Fall.
- Qualified Contractor Program is
being established to identify capable contractors for the membership
to call on to help solve their specific IAQ problems. Applicants
for the program should have hospitality-sector experience and
a good understanding of the IAQ issues hospitality establishment
owners and managers face. Applicants are carefully reviewed and
references are checked before inclusion in the Coalition's database.
An interested member will be referred to several contractors
in his or her area.
- Website is currently "under
construction" to keep members and other interested parties
up on the most current and relevant IAQ information.
- Factsheets, Commonly Asked Questions,
& Case Histories are currently available through the
Coalition office. You are welcomed to call 800-965-4689 for an
information packet.
We applaud the hospitality industry for
joining together to work out solutions to a common problem. Should
you be interested in learning more about ventilation issues,
please e-mail
or call me at (214)
631-1010. I'd like to hear from you!
Sincerely,
KAHN MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS
